The GC competes with smaller premium four-doors such as the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz A-class. Under the hood is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that comes in two flavors: 228 horsepower in the 228i and 301 horses in the M235i. Although the latter has blistering acceleration, the former is no slouch. The 2-series Gran Coupe's ride is smooth, but its handling isn't as sharp as we'd expect from a BMW.
